'CityVille' now bigger on Facebook than 'FarmVille'
(Mashable) -- Facebook game developer Zynga has proved once
again that it knows exactly what it needs to do to keep millions of
Facebook users happy and occupied.
In less than a month, its latest game "CityVille"___ ______
(become) the most popular application on Facebook, surpassing
Zynga's previous hit "FarmVille" in all areas.
According to AppData, "CityVille" now has 16.8 million daily
active users, compared to "FarmVille's" 16.4 million. Looking at
monthly active users, "CityVille" is also ahead with 61.7 million
users, while "FarmVille" trails behind with 56.8 million users.
Zynga's "FrontierVille" and "Texas HoldEm Poker" also round out
the top five: put those four apps together (we'll disregard the fact
that many of those users overlap for a second) and you have a
very impressive number: 184 million active users across four
games.
The only non-Zynga app in the top five list is "Phrases," _____ at
one point threatened to take the top place, but is now
overshadowed by both "CityVille" and "FarmVille."
"CityVille's" future success wasn't hard to predict after an
amazingly good start at the beginning of December, but it's still
impressive to see Zynga amassing tens of millions of users in a
matter of days, proving that all that venture capital that went into
the company isn't there by accident.

Instruction: Answer questions 41 to 53 based on the following text.

Why Learning Is A New Procrastination

  1. The tremendous world of online courses, blogs, social media, free eBooks, podcasts, and
  2. webinars provides the best ever opportunity to broaden your knowledge in almost every sphere
  3. you can imagine. Thanks to technological advancement and the instant access to the internet,
  4. everyone can now study from home. It seems like it would be foolishly not to seize this
  5. opportunity and improve your skills and knowledge. Moreover, you are kind of forced to do so
  6. since the contemporary world has raised the bar higher than ever before. It literally invited you
  7. to gather the pace and ___________ even more.
  8. It is not surprising that, ultimately, you try to be everywhere and do everything. No doubt,
  9. you do your best to constantly gather tiny bits of information from as many channels as
  10. possible, because you are afraid that you will fall behind if you stop. After all, you enter a
  11. learning crunch mode. You do not afford to miss anything and try to read every book you could
  12. get your hands on. You listen to every single podcast your smartphone could download and take
  13. every online course your paycheck would allow to take.
  14. All in all, you learn. As much as possible. As intense as you manage to. You learn how to
  15. write and publish a new book. You learn how to launch a successful blog. You learn how to hit
  16. your goal on Kickstarter. You learn how to build the next “unicorn”. You learn how to land a job
  17. of your dream. You learn how to successfully sell thousands of items on Amazon. You learn how
  18. to make millions of dollars in passive income.
  19. However, the problem is that you do everything except taking action. All those activities do
  20. not take you closer to the things you want to accomplish. Better knowledge does not make you
  21. more influential, powerful, and successful unless you apply it. The key secret to success is not
  22. ________ expertise, but the ability to use it.
  23. Knowledge is worthless unless it is applied. Needless to say that studying is crucial.
  24. However, the thing is that it should take the entirely new form now. You should stop learning
  25. from someone else’s experiences, knowledge, failures, and wins and start learning from your
  26. own mistakes, adventures, ___________, and bold actions.
  27. Learning has become a major trend of the 21st century. Sadly, it has also become a new
  28. form of procrastination. You consciously postpone the first step justifying this by your eagerness
  29. to broaden the knowledge and learn new things. You put the start date off justifying this by
  30. your desire to pick up new skills that would help you succeed faster. You procrastinate over
  31. chasing your own aspirations because doing the things on your own and creating your own story
  32. of success is far more complicated than reading about someone else’s one. Meanwhile, no one
  33. would really reproach you for wasting your time. Also, you feel comfortable about staying within
  34. this zone of ease and convenience forever.
  35. However, the point is that you already have and know everything you need to start off. In
  36. fact, there is nothing more you need to learn in order to take the first step. Embrace the truth.
  37. No matter how good your theoretical knowledge is, you will face a lot of obstacles while
  38. applying it. You will have to deal with issues that have never been described or covered in any
  39. book. You will have to look for the solutions and make the spontaneous decisions that no one
  40. probably has ever thought of. You will have to design your own road to success.
  41. Transform your learning process from the continuous the procrastination into an
  42. unstoppable process of absorbing invaluable expertise based on your own experience. It might
  43. seem counterintuitive, but the old-fashioned way of learning is what holds you back. This is
  44. what makes your triumphs suck.
  45. Constant learning, evaluating of ideas, thinking, and visualizing your journey towards your
  46. major aspirations will not take you far from the place you are now. Actions will. You can sit and
  47. research, and research, and research, while someone else is already reaping huge rewards for
  48. his or her fruitful and hard work. Stop learning now. Become bold enough to take the first step
  49. and start learning from your own experience.

Brazil’s Average Unemployment Rate Falls to Record Low in 2012

By Dow Jones Business News

January 31, 2013

Brazil’s unemployment rate for 2012 fell to 5.5%, down from the previous record low of 6.0% recorded last year, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or IBGE, said Thursday. In December, unemployment fell to 4.6% compared with 4.9% in November, besting the previous record monthly low of 4.7% registered in December 2011, the IBGE said.

The 2012 average unemployment rate was in line with the 5.5% median estimate of economists polled by the local Estado news agency. Analysts had also pegged December’s unemployment rate at 4.4%.

Brazil’s unemployment rate remains at historically low levels despite sluggish economic activity. Salaries have also been on the upswing in an ominous sign for inflation – a key area of concern for the Brazilian Central Bank after a series of interest rate cuts brought local interest rates to record lows last year. Inflation ended 2012 at 5.84%.

The average monthly Brazilian salary retreated slightly to 1,805.00 Brazilian reais ($908.45) in December, down from the record high BRL1,809.60 registered in November, the IBGE said. Wages trended higher in 2012 as employee groups called on Brazilian companies and the government to increase wages and benefits to counter higher local prices. Companies were also forced to pay more to hire and retain workers because of the country’s low unemployment.

The IBGE measures unemployment in six of Brazil’s largest metropolitan areas, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, Belo Horizonte, Recife and Porto Alegre. Brazil’s unemployment rate, however, is not fully comparable to jobless rates in developed countries as a large portion of the population is either underemployed or works informally without paying taxes. In addition, workers not actively seeking a job in the month before the survey don’t count as unemployed under the IBGE’s methodology. The survey also doesn’t take into account farm workers.

Text CG2A2

A new study on physical activity that involved more than half a million participants over age 40 found that modest exercise increases life expectancy regardless of weight.
Contrary to most of the attention given to obesity as the crucial risk factor for health, the study found that an active lifestyle increased life expectancy to a greater extent than a lower body mass index (BMI), in general. In fact, participants who were active but class 1 obese lived an average of 3.1 years longer than those who were at a normal weight but didn’t engage in physical activity. This is in-line with reports from earlier this year that excessive sitting is unhealthy and that reducing excessive sitting to less than 3 hours a day alone can improve longevity by 2.0 years.
The article states low level of physical activity of moderate to vigorous intensity would confer a 1.8-year gain in life expectancy after age 40, compared with no activity. A low level of physical activity is defined as up to 75 minutes of fast walking per week.
A consequence of this study is that it calls into question the reliance on BMI to assess fitness. That isn’t to suggest that BMI isn’t a factor, but that what we’ve heard for years in the media that being overweight is “bad” for you while exercise is “good” is a flawed message. A better message would be: Regular exercise is essential to longevity and a lower BMI helps too — do the first and the other will likely follow.

Schools closed, warnings issued as Asia swelters in extreme heatwave

South and Southeast Asia braced for more extreme heat on Sunday as authorities across the region issued health warnings and residents fled to parks and air-conditioned malls for relief.

A wave of exceptionally hot weather has blasted the region over the past week, sending the mercury as high as 45 degrees Celsius (113 degrees Fahrenheit) and forcing thousands of schools to tell students to stay home.

The Philippines announced on Sunday the suspension of in-person classes at all public schools for two days after a record-shattering day of heat in the capital Manila.

In Thailand, where at least 30 people have died of heatstroke so far this year, the meteorological department warned of "severe conditions" after temperatures in a northern province exceeded 44.1C (111.4F) on Saturday.

And in Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam, India and Bangladesh, forecasters warned that temperatures could exceed 40C in the coming days as people endured searing heat and stifling humidity.

"I dare not go out in the daytime. I am worried we would get heatstroke," said a 39 year-old cashier in Myanmar’s Yangon who gave her name as San Yin.

She said she has been going to a park with her husband and four-year-old son at night to escape the heat of their fourth-floor apartment.

"This is the only spot we can stay to avoid the heat in our neighbourhood," she said.

Global temperatures hit record highs last year, and the United Nations weather and climate agency said Tuesday that Asia was warming at a particularly rapid pace.

Answer question about the text below:

A US dentist who killed a lion in Zimbabwe says he regrets shooting the well-known animal.
In a written statement, Walter Palmer insists that he thought he was on a legal hunt and that he "deeply regrets" his actions.
Cecil the lion, known for his black mane, was about 13 years old, and a famous attraction for wildlife tourists in Zimbabwe. But earlier this month, it’s understood the big cat was tempted outside a national park using bait and allegedly shot with a bow and arrow by Palmer.
"Cecil was collared. You may want to know what that means. Collared is an animal which is under surveillance and a GPS system which is being used for research, for different things…”
Wildlife officials accused Mr Palmer of killing Cecil, without a permit, after paying $50,000 to two people who lured the beast to its death.
"The person involved, or the offender, is a gentleman who is an American called Walter James Palmer. Walter James Palmer is the guy who came into the country around the beginning of this month of July and was enticed, we're not quite sure yet, to harvest this particular lion. The proper market value for this lion, which is a big treasure, would be around $100,000 US dollars.”
Police in Zimbabwe say two people have been arrested and that Mr Palmer may also face poaching charges. If convicted, the two men would be required to pay $20,000 in compensation, but the court may impose an additional jail term.
According to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, investigations show that the killing of Cecil was illegal because the land owner was not allocated a lion on his hunting quota for 2015.
Lions are not a protected species in Zimbabwe. The country issues annual permits allowing foreign hunters to kill wildlife like elephant, buffalo and lion, and say doing so allows it to raise money for conservation.

For mobile computers and telephones, cellular radio is the up-and-coming technology. GSM, CDPD, and CDMA are widely used.
The IEEE 802 LANs are: CSMA/CD, token bus, and token ring. Each of these has its own unique advantages and disadvantages, and each has found its own user community and will probably continue to serve that community for years to come. Convergence to a single LAN standard is an unlikely event. A new addition to this family is DQDB, being sold as a MAN in many cities.
An organization with multiple LANs often connects them with bridges. When a bridge connects two or more different kinds of LANs, new problems arise, some of them insoluble.

How to get the most enjoyment from your
color TV set

Your new color TV incorporates a host of features designed to give you excellent performance. Besides, this model utilizes a highly sophisticated control microprocessor that can give you unprecedented convenience and control in the areas of picture adjustment, channel tuning, monitor operation, on-screen information, and remote control.

We therefore strongly urge that you read all of these instructions before using yourTV for the first time.

Installation

Antenna

Unless your TV is connected to a cable TV system, or to a centralized antenna system, a good outdoor color TV antenna is recommended for the best performance. However, if you are located in a strong signal area that is free from interference and ghost conditions (multipath), an indoor antenna may be sufficient. The two pole antenna packedwith this set is for your convenience only. It is not capable of providing you with the sharp detail and rich color that this televisionwas designed to display.

Location

Select an area where sunlight or bright indoor illumination will not fall directly on the picture screen. Also, be sure that the location selected allows a free flow of air to and fromthe perforated back cover of the set.

Note

Never remove the back cover of the set. This can expose you to very high voltage and other hazards.

If the set does not operate properly, unplug it and call your dealer or service shop.
